It’s still a C atera tho
![]() 07/21/2020 at 13:45 |

Which means it’s also a Commodore

Wrong (ish). Platform was shared, but so highly modified that it had a different wheelbase and suspension setup, and they had no engines in common. The Catera was sold in Europe as the Opel Omega though.

For a about 1/2 a second, I thought that was a Lexus IS300. The change to a mesh grill really makes the car look different.

But this seems like expert level trolling.

What on earth happened to the interior ? Eww.
![]() 07/21/2020 at 14:11 |

I’m used to an early 2000s Mini and Corvette interior, that isn't anything out of the ordinary for me!
![]() 07/21/2020 at 14:13 |
|
I’m fine with that!
![]() 07/21/2020 at 14:16 |
|
I don’t think I’ve ever wanted an early 2000s GM product, until now.
![]() 07/21/2020 at 14:20 |
|
It’s gotta V8 now, so it’s Aussie as it gets, mate
![]() 07/21/2020 at 14:34 |
|
It may be the only Catera worth owning.
![]() 07/21/2020 at 14:39 |

GM happened to that interior. And it wasn’t designed to be a Cadillac interior either, I’d bet that interior is identical to its Opel counter part.
Yup

If an Is300 and J30 had a baby I’d look like this.

Ivan’s Is300 and J30 had a baby I’d look like this.

The Caddy that zigs!
Or just sits there smoking its tires. Which is also fun.

They should’ve given the Catera the 3800 instead of the shit they put in there
I like the
Catera more than I should
![]() 07/21/2020 at 14:48 |
|
As good as the 3800 is, you cannot argue with a big LS
![]() 07/21/2020 at 14:51 |
|
Yeah, the LS is good too :o)
In Aust
ralia, they offered the 3800 both NA and su
percharged, with
the LS1 for the top model. They should’ve done the same here.

Oooh thats would've been a nice choice of options...

Front impact and too cheap for airbag
![]() 07/21/2020 at 15:27 |

I didn’t even realize until just now that the Catera/Omega was RWD.
How does this car not already belong to Tim Allen?

I owned a late model GTO so I should know this, but aren’t they on basically the same chassis? (they widened it for the GTO maybe? I can’t remember )
If so, there should be a ton of upgrades you can do to the Cateras, including the big V8s.

In a strange sidenote to how fukty-uppy Cadillac is these days... I actually tried...
www.catera.com
You’d think the dumbasses would at least re-direct that stale old address to this... at minimum...

I have no clue....I had forgotten the Catera exists until I saw this one
![]() 07/21/2020 at 16:41 |

My pot dealer in high school had one. Nice guy......
![]() 07/21/2020 at 17:42 |

Yes, shared platform (I’m sure modified in some way(s) for the GTO).
![]() 07/21/2020 at 18:29 |
|
I reckon so. Given how much this looks like a VT/VX Commmodore which the GTO is also based on.

I was just discussing this the other day with my friends, how Australia is the best country for sporty, manual sedans and wagons...

We use to be, sadly everything is going suv and auto these days like everywhere else

The Australian Commodore V-Body is considerably different from the European Omega V-Body. Basically the Commodore is a continuation of the slightly larger european Opel Senator.
Opel were considering to mass produce an LS1-powered Omega and had actually built about 30 pre-production cars in 2000 but dropped it officially because the transmission repeatedly suffered from problems after sustained high-speed (Autobahn) driving.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 16:50 |
|
Wrong. About 30 Euro Cateras were built with the LS1/4L60E combo. They were all kept by Opel.

Yeah, I did a little digging on the old GTO forum I used to frequent and came across basically the same answer. I think there was maybe 3 or 4 parts that were (are?) interchangeable , but it’s basically an entirely different car.
